Kathmandu is facing gas shortages mainly due to a combination of transport disruptions and high demand. A landslide blocking the main road has forced LPG cylinders to be transported via alternative routes, slowing deliveries. Despite plants in Chitwan and nearby districts running extended hours to supply gas, daily deliveries have only increased from 44,000 to just over 52,000 cylinders, which is still short of the demand. This shortfall of about 15,000 cylinders daily has caused prices to rise and led to backlogs of empty cylinders. The administration has warned sellers against hoarding or refusing to sell gas to manage the crisis.
