Renewing a passport

Renewal follows the same process as a new passport: choose Passport Renewal on the online form and book a date, then go to the centre with your current passport and citizenship. At a District Administration Office a 34-page passport costs Rs 5,000; fast service at the Department of Passports costs Rs 12,000.

Documents you need

  • The submitted online form with barcode and QR code (printed, or the original file on your phone — not a screenshot)
  • Your current passport (original)
  • Original citizenship certificate
  • National ID card or proof of NID registration
  • Bank voucher or cash receipt for the fee
  • Copy of the migration certificate, if your address changed by migration

Steps

  1. Choose Passport Renewal online and book a dateChoose Passport Renewal, 34 or 66 pages, an enrolment centre and an appointment.
  2. Upload scans and submitScan originals to 1 MB or less and upload.
  3. At the centre: form check, fee payment, photo and biometricsOn your booked date: 1. form check → 2. pay the fee → 3. photo and biometrics.
  4. Collect where you applied after the SMS/emailYou will get an email or SMS when it is ready; collect it with your documents where you applied.
